{MHS Media Center}

Welcome to the
Marlboro High School Media Center

You have arrived at the intellectual heart of our school. It is the place to come when you need somewhere quiet to study, read or do homework or when you seek answers to your questions. Our Library/Media Specialist, Mrs. Baker, and our Library Clerk, Mrs. Sandri, are always happy to assist you in any way they can.

Did you know that ... "Students who score higher on tests tend to come from schools which have more library resource staff and more books, periodicals and videos, and where the instructional role of the teacher-librarian and involvement in cooperative program planning and teaching is more prominent." To read the complete study, go to The Impact of School Library Media Centers on Academic Achievement. For additional information on the importance of school libraries, read School Library Facts or Research About Libraries.

The mission of the Marlboro High School Library Media Program is to support the curriculum of Marlboro High School, and as part of that mission provide access to current, adequate, and appropriate information resources, and to ensure that all students, teachers, and staff are effective users of ideas and information.

Library resources consist of the following:

  • approximately 10,000 books chosen to support curriculum and personal interest
  • 200 videotapes selected to enhance academic instruction
  • 100 Books on Tape including classroom selections as well as popular titles
  • 4 Local and 3 national newspapers
  • 100 Magazine subscriptions for research and leisure reading

An adjacent Computer Lab houses 24 Dell workstations, a teaching computer, LCD projector,a scanner and several laser printers. All computers offer MS Office, Adobe Photoshop, Inspiration, high speed Internet access and 38 online research databases.

The Media Center is open 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM each week day. Students are welcome throughout the day:

  • From Class: Students may come at any time in the period with passes signed by their teachers noting library related assignment to be done. Students must sign in when they arrive and sign out if they return to class before the end of the period.
  • From Study Hall:
    • Students should come directly to the library at the beginning of the period. Students should not go to Study Hall first or come from Study Hall after the period has begun.
    • Students MUST arrive in the library before the late bell rings.
    • Students must sign in at the Circulation Desk. Attendance will be taken and a copy of the sign in sheet will be sent to study hall teachers.
  • From Lunch: Students wishing to use the Media Center during their lunch period to do schoolwork requiring library resources must plan ahead and request passes of Mrs. Baker BEFORE the end of 4th period.
  • After School: Students wishing to use the Media Center after school to do schoolwork requiring library resources must be in the Media Center by 2:20 and remain until the late bus at 3:15. Bus passes will be written at that time.
